I just finished reading this little book by Fred DuBose, I Used To Know That Civil War. Now, most of you know I’m a history buff and this book gave me a wonderful review of history I learned in school but have long ago forgotten.
I Used To Know That Civil War brings back the key components, main events and individuals that shaped the Civil War. The format of the book itself is easy to read and understand as the sections of the book is broken up by time periods. So, you will get an understanding of of what was happening before the war, what ignited the war and it’s outcome. I just love the way this book flowed.
As I read this book, I then learned some fact that I did not know before. For instance, did you know that the bible was used to justify slavery or how Harriet Tubman suffered from Narcoleptic seizures and was illiterate, yet she freed so many slaves without ever getting caught or loosing a slave. The book also includes photos, charts and little inserts detailing important points and information.
I totally love this book and it’s a must-have, must-read, Period! This books serves an easy read if you just want to freshen-up on your history or even as a reference, as to refer to some Civil War information. I highly recommend this book if you have children in middle school and higher, as it will be a great source to them. Take your chance in reading this book, you will not be disappointed.
Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from FSB Media in exchange for my review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are 100% my own and may differ from others.

Great looking blog! Thanks for taking out the time to stop by mine. I found this post very interesting. I plan on reading the Civil War book over the summer. My sons are wanting to study all of the wars next year and are most interested in this one. It will be a great help to me. If you like history you should check out “America: The Story of Us”. I think you can find it on the History Channel’s website. It’s a great movie. Once again thanks for the post and take care
