I am woman,
I have strengths that amaze men
I carry hardships and burdens
I hold happiness, love and joy
I smile when I want to scream
I sing when I want to cry
I cry when I am happy
And laugh when I’m nervous
I am woman
I am a mother
I carry and mold children
So they could be all they could be
I kiss away skinned knees and wipe away tears
I check under the bed and closet
Taking away all their fears
I cry at the first day of school an again
At graduation
I carry the pain for each of my adult child’s
Sorrow of a heart break and lost infatuation
I am woman
I am a wife
I call in the middle of his work day to say “I love you”
Sit by the phone when he forgets to,
I jump for joy with each promotion,
Cry for his failures and disappointments
And for every time he failed to show an emotion
I iron shirts, make favorite dinners, even set up for game night
Wait up when he is late, wait for him still, when he forgets to sleep in my bed
I don’t even fuss a fight
Instead, forgive him for every indiscretion or lie he has said
I am woman
I am a lover
I submit myself to each fetish and desire
Making his body and soul pulsate with fire
I dress in black leather, fishnet stockings wrapped in stilettos
Even bound lace to fulfill every innuendo
I push him to madness driven by lust alone
Feed his hunger, drink his spill, and take total control
I am woman
I bake cookies and attend board meetings
I sit at the PTA and even fix water leaks
I teach sons how to dance with daughters
I want romantic, candle-light dinners
I play the good wife
And even turn tricks as a whore
I am woman
I touch all those that that enter my life
I am honest, loyal and forgiving
I am strong, powerful and at times even weak
But I am woman
So I rise once again so
I can smile when I want to scream,
Sing when I want to cry
Cry when I am happy
And laugh when I’m nervous
Because I am a woman….
