I review for BookSneeze

I was given the opportunity to review a wonderful children’s book, Adopted Ed written by Darren Maddern and illustrated by  Erin Fusco and I absolutely loved it. This is a special book with many powerful messages and many lessons to be learned.

The story begins with Eddie, a little boy that was adopted by some wonderful parents. Once, Eddie begins school however, some bullies begin to tease him about being adopted. Upset, Eddie runs to his mother and tells her what happens. In turn, she informs Eddie that being adopted makes him special. That he was chosen and that his bullies parents was basically stuck with him. Eddie than grew proud as he proclaimed his adoption.

This is a wonderful book. It shows the responsibilities adoptive parents carry in teaching their child of being adoptive but also how to overcome injustices and cruelty imposed by ignorance. This book teaches that is okay to be different and that those that do not understand need to be dealt with patience and tolerance.

Adopted Ed, is illustrated beautifully with vibrant colors, conveying emotions adding on to the story’s message. The story is an easy read but with a powerful message. This book is to be read by every child and not just by those that are adopted. This book would have been great for my nephew, who is adopted and now, as reaching adulthood, is beginning to ask questions.

Darren Maddern did an exceptional job with this book and as he was also adopted, you can see that the book was written with sensitivity, realistic scenarios and pride. Outstanding! To read more on Darren Maddern, you can go here.

This book is an excellent resource for parents and educators. It celebrates being different, it teaches about taking pride on who you are and it teaches about the gift of being adopted. The end of the book also shows some famous people that have been adopted as to show how common adoption really is.

Disclosure: I received a copy of Adopted Ed by Darren Maddern  to review and keep.  No other compensation was received.  The opinions are 100% my own.  Any factual information was obtained from the book’s website.
